Meet the Orthodontists

Mark A Luposello, DMD, MS

"A beautiful smile fosters self confidence;
confidence enables a world of possibilities"

photo of Dr. Mark LuposelloI have been a certified orthodontist helping Northern Virginia families smile confidently since 1993. I attended Tufts University for my undergraduate education, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, graduating summa cum laude. After enduring the never-ending winters of Boston, I decided to go south where I attended the University of Florida College of Dentistry, earning my Doctor of Dental Medicine and finishing at the top of my class. I completed my formal dental training at the University of Maryland College of Dental Surgery, where I received my certificate of orthodontics and a Masters degree in oral biology.

I am a member of the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, and the Southern Association of Orthodontists, along with several local study clubs.

If there is something I can say about myself it is that I love finding mechanical solutions to problems. This is one of the things that drew me to orthodontics. Not surprisingly, I designed a toothbrush for braces for which I hold a U.S. Patent. A great thing about orthodontics is that it continues to evolve. By attending continuing education courses I am able to stay at the forefront of orthodontic techniques and create new and more efficient treatment solutions for our patients.

I am also fortunate to be able to share these exciting developments with my wife, Dr. Cris Ann Ternisky, a specialist in pediatric dentistry. No, we don't always talk shop. We are blessed with two wonderful children, Isabel and Mark Reid. Together we enjoy swimming, skiing, and learning new things; that is, when I can be separated from my other passion - restoring or racing my vintage Shelby.

Robert Marzban DDS MDS

photo of Dr. Robert MarzbanMy family seems to be drawn to the medical arts…both of my parents worked in medicine and encouraged my interest in the field. My career started at the Medical College of Virginia where I was awarded my Doctor of Dental Surgery degree (DDS) with summa cum laude or supreme honor. I continued my education at the University of Connecticut completing my orthodontic residency and receiving a Masters of Dental Science (MDS).

Having spent most of my life in Northern Virginia, it only made sense to return here to start my orthodontic practice and raise a family. Fortunately for me, both my sister and brother also received their dental and medical degrees and have returned to northern Virginia to practice.

The very definition of "orthodontic practice" requires a lifelong commitment to education. A very extensive continuing education schedule and involvement in study clubs, dental organizations, and numerous awards in dentistry allow me to stay on top of my game. As a result, I am able to give my patients the best and most advanced treatment options available.

I think about the lengths that I go through to see my daughter, Artemeez, smile and I feel pretty good about what I do when I think of the smiles my patients are sharing with their families.

Over the years, my love for my family, profession, books, computers, and gadgets has left me with the distinction of super nerd. To find a way to balance that, I’ve had to work hard developing interests like competing in triathlons and teaching indoor cycling. Occasionally, I’ll take my car to the race track and challenge Dr. Mark to a couple laps.
