Most people agree that straighter teeth would improve their appearance and the way their mouth functions. However, the drawbacks of traditional braces deter many adults and teens from pursuing orthodontic treatment. LM Orthodontics offers different brands of clear aligners such as Invisalign®. To learn more about the system and find out if Invisalign is an option for you, call LM Orthodontics today.
Invisalign is a popular alternative to traditional and clear braces that is nearly invisible in your mouth. Instead of using brackets, wires, and rubber bands, Invisalign employs a series of transparent plastic aligners to move your teeth into a straighter position. When you choose Invisalign, the team uses the iTero® digital scanning system to make a 3D digital image of your teeth’s starting position. This image is used to map out your treatment plan, accounting for the step by step movements of your teeth throughout the process and calculating the time it will take to complete the treatment.
Each aligner is made of Invisalign’s patented SmartTrack® plastic material that feels comfortable in your mouth and applies an even, tolerable amount of force to your teeth for 20-22 hours per day while you wear it. You may remove and clean your aligner whenever you eat or brush your teeth.
The team may recommend that you switch to the next aligner every 2 weeks or less frequently depending on your needs. Each aligner is formed to the shape of your teeth and may feel a bit tight when you first put it in. As you switch aligners, it moves your teeth slightly closer to a perfect alignment.
Invisalign has many advantages over traditional and clear ceramic braces, such as:
Invisalign is appropriate for patients with mild to moderate misalignment. If your teeth are severely misaligned or crowded, the LM Orthodontics team may suggest metal or clear braces instead.
After your Invisalign treatment, you can ensure that your teeth stay in their new position with a Vivera® retainer. These retainers are made of the same SmartTrack plastic as Invisalign aligners and are more durable than their competitors. Your provider will let you know how often and how long you need to wear it.
